Day 1: Nairobi – Samburu National Reserve
On arrival at the airport, you will be met and given a short safari briefing before setting off on your journey north of Nairobi. The drive takes you across the Equator and past the impressive slopes of Mount Kenya, continuing through changing landscapes toward the wide, open plains of Samburu Game Reserve. You will arrive in time for lunch and check in at your chosen lodge or tented camp. After some time to unwind, head out in the late afternoon for your first game drive.
Samburu is known for its striking scenery, dotted with rivers, woodlands, and dramatic views. It is also home to communities with a vibrant and deeply rooted cultural heritage. The reserve’s permanent springs attract an abundance of wildlife, including leopard, hippo, elephant, lion, reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, and crocodiles along the Ewaso Nyiro River. Bird enthusiasts will be delighted by the more than 365 bird species recorded here. After your game drive, return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 2: Samburu National Reserve
Enjoy a full day exploring the reserve with morning and afternoon game drives. These outings offer excellent opportunities to spot the wildlife that makes this area so distinctive, including the reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, Beisa oryx, and the striking blue-necked Somali ostrich—species that are rarely seen in other parts of the country. Between drives, relax at the lodge and take in the peaceful surroundings. Later in the evening, return for dinner and another overnight stay.
