Overview
This eight day safari covers Samburu, Aberdares, Amboseli, Lake Nakuru, and the Masai Mara, offering encounters with rare northern species, elephants under Kilimanjaro, and abundant birdlife including flamingos and white rhinos. Elevated decks in the Aberdares allow close-up wildlife viewing, while Masai Mara hosts a wide variety of animals including the Big Five. Day 1: Nairobi – Samburu Game Reserve
After being picked up from your hotel or the airport, travel north toward Samburu, stopping briefly at the Equator near Nanyuki for photos. Continue through the scenic landscapes of central Kenya to arrive at Samburu National Reserve in time for lunch. In the afternoon, take a short drive in the park to spot its rare northern wildlife, including Reticulated Giraffes, Grevy’s Zebras, Beisa Oryx, and the striking blue-legged Somali Ostrich. Return to your camp or lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 2: Full Day in Samburu
Spend the day in Samburu with the option of a picnic lunch in the park. Enjoy morning and afternoon drives to see the reserve’s rivers, woodlands, and semi-arid plains. Wildlife highlights include elephants, lions, leopards, hippos, crocodiles, and the special northern species such as the Gerenuk and Beisa Oryx. Over 360 species of birds have been recorded here. Dinner and overnight are at your camp or lodge.
Day 3: Samburu – Aberdare National Park
After breakfast, depart Samburu and head toward the Aberdares. Stop along the way for a short game drive and enjoy the scenic journey to your lodge. Arrive in time for lunch and settle in. Later, visit The Ark, which features multiple viewing decks and lounges that allow animals to come close, giving you a unique wildlife experience from the comfort of the lodge. Dinner and overnight are at The Ark or your chosen lodge.
Day 4: Aberdare – Amboseli National Park
Enjoy breakfast before departing the Aberdares. Travel south through varied landscapes toward Amboseli National Park, arriving in the late afternoon. Take your first game drive upon arrival, soaking in views of elephants against the backdrop of snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro. Return to your camp or lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 5: Amboseli – Lake Nakuru National Park
After breakfast, spend the morning on a game drive in Amboseli, famous for its open plains and stunning views of Kilimanjaro. Look out for lions, cheetahs, elephants, zebras, giraffes, and other wildlife as you traverse the park. Later, drive toward Lake Nakuru, descending into the Rift Valley along the way. Arrive in the evening, check in at your lodge, and enjoy dinner.
Day 6: Lake Nakuru – Masai Mara National Reserve
Start the day with a game drive at Lake Nakuru, home to huge flocks of flamingos and the rare white and black rhinos. Take in the park’s lush scenery and abundant birdlife before departing for Masai Mara, stopping for lunch in Narok town. Depending on timing, you may have a short drive in the Mara upon arrival. Dinner and overnight at your camp or lodge.
Day 7: Masai Mara Full Day
Spend the day within the Masai Mara, taking full advantage of the rich wildlife. The park is home to over 450 animal species, including resident and migratory herds of wildebeest, zebras, elephants, lions, leopards, and rhinos. You can split your day into morning and evening drives, or enjoy a longer single excursion with a picnic lunch near the Mara River, watching hippos and crocodiles. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 8: Masai Mara – Nairobi
After breakfast, check out and begin the drive back to Nairobi. Stop for lunch along the way and continue to the city, arriving in the late afternoon for drop-off at your hotel or the airport.
