Overview

From the dry plains of Samburu to the open grasslands of the Masai Mara, this safari takes you through some of Kenya’s most remarkable wildlife areas, including Samburu Game Reserve, Sweetwaters (Ol Pejeta) Conservancy, Lake Naivasha, and the Masai Mara National Reserve. In Samburu, you will encounter the region’s unique dry-country wildlife, including reticulated giraffes, Grevy’s zebras, and Somali ostriches. At Sweetwaters, see white rhinos and visit the chimpanzee sanctuary while enjoying the conservancy’s wide variety of animals. Lake Naivasha offers a chance to ride a boat, get close to hippos, and hand-feed fish eagles, with a walk on Crescent Island to see zebras, giraffes, and antelopes roaming freely. Masai Mara provides excellent opportunities to spot the Big Five, along with countless other wildlife and birds across its vast plains. The trip includes private use of a 4×4 land cruiser, with flexible accommodation options ranging from budget to luxury, and the schedule can be adjusted to suit your preferences. Day 1: Nairobi – Samburu Game Reserve

You will be collected from your hotel or the airport and after a brief introduction to your safari, drive north through central Kenya toward Samburu National Reserve. Stop along the way for scenic views before arriving in time for lunch. In the afternoon, head out for a game drive, spotting wildlife unique to the region, including reticulated giraffes, Grevy’s zebras, gerenuks, and Beisa oryx, as well as lions, elephants, and other large animals. Return to your camp or lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Samburu National Reserve

Spend the day in the heart of Samburu with early morning and afternoon drives across the reserve, which stretches over 104 square kilometers. The dramatic backdrop of Ololokwe Table Mountain adds to the scenery. This area is home to wildlife found only in northern Kenya, such as the reticulated giraffe, the blue-legged Somali ostrich, and the long-necked gerenuk, alongside Beisa oryx and other plains animals. Return to your lodge or camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Samburu – Sweetwaters (Ol Pejeta)

After breakfast, enjoy one last short morning game drive in Samburu before departing for Sweetwaters Conservancy. Arrive in time for lunch and later spend the afternoon visiting the rhino sanctuary and the chimpanzee sanctuary. Return to your accommodation for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Sweetwaters – Lake Naivasha

Begin the day with breakfast, then spend more time at Sweetwaters observing elephants, giraffes, and other wildlife across the private ranch. In the afternoon, transfer to Lake Naivasha, arriving by evening. Relax at your lodge or camp and enjoy dinner before overnight stay.

Day 5: Lake Naivasha – Masai Mara National Reserve

After breakfast, take a boat ride on Lake Naivasha and walk on Crescent Island. Get close to hippos in the water and feed fish eagles along the shores. Observe herds of giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, and other animals, as well as the rich birdlife, including pelicans and cormorants. After this experience, depart for Masai Mara, stopping for lunch in Narok town. Arrive in the reserve in the afternoon and head straight for a late afternoon game drive. Return to your lodge or camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Masai Mara National Reserve

Spend a full day in the Masai Mara, enjoying game drives with a picnic lunch by the Mara River while watching hippos and crocodiles in their natural habitat. The reserve is home to the Big Five – lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, and rhino – and countless other animals including cheetahs, giraffes, and hyenas. Over 480 bird species can also be spotted. Optional hot air balloon rides are available for those interested. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 7: Masai Mara – Nairobi

After breakfast, leave the Masai Mara and drive back to Nairobi, stopping for lunch along the way. Arrive in the late afternoon and be dropped off at your hotel or the airport, marking the end of your safari.
