Overview

This trip brings together four of Kenya’s best known wildlife areas: Masai Mara National Reserve, Lake Nakuru National Park, Samburu Game Reserve, and Aberdares National Park. In the Mara, there is a strong chance of spotting the Big Five along with many other animals and bird species. Samburu is known for its dry landscape and special wildlife species rarely seen elsewhere. Lake Nakuru offers excellent bird viewing and is one of the best places to see white rhinos. In the Aberdares, wildlife often gathers near the lodge viewing decks, allowing you to watch animals as they come close by. The trip is conducted in a private 4×4 Land Cruiser jeep, with accommodation options ranging from budget to luxury depending on your preference. Rates vary by season, and the program can be adjusted to fit your travel schedule.

Day 1: Nairobi – Samburu Game Reserve

You will be picked up from your Nairobi hotel or the airport in the morning and begin the drive north to Samburu. There will be a short stop at the Equator in Nanyuki near Mount Kenya for photos. Continue to Samburu, arriving around midday with a short game drive on the way to your camp or lodge. After check in and lunch, head out again in the afternoon for a drive through the reserve. Samburu is known for animals rarely seen in other parks such as the reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, Beisa oryx, and the blue legged Somali ostrich. Return to the camp or lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Samburu – Aberdare National Park

Start the day with an early game drive, then return to the camp for a full breakfast. Later depart for Aberdare, arriving in time for lunch at the Aberdare Hotel. After some time to rest, you will be transferred through the park to The Ark. The lodge has several decks and viewing areas overlooking a waterhole, where animals often gather, making it easy to watch them from the comfort of the lodge. Dinner and overnight at The Ark.

Day 3: Aberdare – Lake Nakuru National Park

After breakfast, leave Aberdare with a drive that takes you through the Great Rift Valley escarpment on your way to Lake Nakuru. Arrive in time for lunch and check in at your camp or lodge. In the afternoon, head out for a drive around the lake, famous for its large numbers of flamingos as well as white and black rhinos. Dinner and overnight at the camp or lodge.

Day 4: Lake Nakuru – Maasai Mara Reserve

Have breakfast at the lodge, then travel to Masai Mara, reaching your camp or lodge in time for lunch. Later in the afternoon, go for a game drive across the plains. The Mara is home to giraffes, baboons, warthogs, jackals, hyenas, topis, impalas, wildebeest, elephants, buffaloes, zebras, and hippos. Lions are often seen resting or watching over the grasslands, while cheetahs and leopards may also be spotted. Between July and October, large herds of wildebeest move between the Serengeti and the Mara. Dinner and overnight at the lodge or camp.

Day 5: Full Day in Masai Mara

After breakfast, leave with packed lunch boxes for a full day in the reserve. The Mara supports hundreds of animal species and is known for its wide open plains filled with wildlife throughout the year. Large herds of elephants move across the land, while lions, buffaloes, gazelles, zebras, and topis are commonly seen. Along the Mara River, hippos stay in the water as crocodiles lie along the banks. In season, thousands of wildebeest and zebras cross the river during their annual movement. In the late afternoon, return to the lodge with the option of visiting a local Maasai village. Dinner and overnight at the lodge or camp.

Day 6: Masai Mara – Nairobi

After breakfast at the lodge, check out and begin the drive back to Nairobi. There will be a stop for lunch in Narok town before continuing the journey. Arrival in Nairobi is in the late afternoon or evening, followed by drop off at your hotel or at the airport.
