Overview
This safari takes you to two of Kenya’s most unique wildlife destinations: Samburu Game Reserve and the Aberdare Ranges. Samburu is known for its rare and endemic species, including Grevy’s zebra, Reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx, and Somali ostrich, all set in a rugged, semi-arid landscape far from the crowds. Sweetwaters (Ol Pejeta) adds the chance to see rhinos and large herds of elephants in a private sanctuary setting. The Aberdare offers a completely different experience, with luxurious lodges like The Ark featuring balconies and viewing decks where animals come right up to the lodge for easy, relaxing observation. This safari is done in a private 4×4 Land Cruiser, and accommodations can be chosen from mid-range or luxury options. Prices vary by season, and the trip is fully customizable.

Day 1: Nairobi – Samburu Game Reserve
In the morning, you will be picked up from your hotel or the airport and begin the journey north toward Samburu, with a stop at the Equator line near Nanyuki to take photos and experience this unique landmark. Continue through the scenic countryside and arrive at Samburu in time for a short game drive before checking in at your camp or lodge. After lunch and a short rest, head out for an afternoon game drive to explore the park’s fascinating wildlife. Samburu is home to species found only in northern Kenya, including Reticulated giraffes, Grevy’s zebras, Beisa oryx, and Somali ostriches. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Full Day in Samburu Game Reserve
Spend a full day in Samburu exploring its quiet, unspoiled landscapes. This park is less visited than Kenya’s more famous reserves, giving you a peaceful and private wildlife experience. Game drives focus on the riverine areas where elephants, leopards, and other wildlife congregate. Observe herds of elephants and other rare species while enjoying the expansive, open terrain. In the evening, return to your camp or lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Samburu Game Reserve – Aberdare National Park
After an early morning game drive and breakfast at your lodge, depart Samburu for the Aberdare Ranges. Arrive at your lodge with time for lunch and some rest. In the afternoon, head to The Ark, one of the Aberdare’s most unique lodges. From its multiple viewing decks, balconies, and lounges, you can watch elephants, buffalo, and other wildlife visiting the watering holes right in front of the lodge. Enjoy a relaxing evening with spectacular views, then have dinner and overnight at The Ark or your Aberdare lodge.
Day 4: Aberdare National Park – Nairobi
Start the day with breakfast and an optional early game viewing on the way out of the park. Travel back toward Nairobi, passing through the scenic Great Rift Valley escarpment. Stop for lunch along the way, then continue to arrive in Nairobi in the afternoon, where you will be dropped off at your hotel, residence, or airport, marking the end of your safari.
